Zac Purchase started making a splash on the international rowing scene in 2007, winning 2 silvers and a bronze in three World Cup regattas that season. He went on to claim victory a year later in the 2008 Beijing Olympics; winning Britain’s first lightweight rowing medal, being soaring to victory again in 2010 and 2011, winning 2 gold medals in the world championships. In 2012 he thrilled the crowds winning a silver medal with Mark Hunter on home waters at the London Olympics in an epic doubles final.
Following his Olympic triumph, after nearly 10 years in the Great British rowing team, Zac retired from professional sport and started sharing his love of a healthy happy lifestyle with the masses. He has launched two high-intensity interval and functional training studios, in Marlow, Buckinghamshire and Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. Zac’s new centres aim to create a healthier kind of environment, free from the pressure and intimidation of conventional gyms. Zac’s fitness centres ditch all the complicated apparatus and focus on a range of tailored exercise routines.
HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?
‘Genuinely, by working with our lovely clients every day and watching them improve week on week and hearing their great feedback and success stories.’
WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT ROWING INTERNATIONALLY
‘I always loved racing. The buzz of a 6.5 minute World Championship or Olympic final after a long year of hard training is hard to beat.’
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BREAKAWAY FROM CONVENTIONAL GYMS?
‘A desire to just do the right thing for local people. We offer a really personal service, in a relaxed home from home environment which is hard to achieve in a conventional gym. People come because they want to, not because they feel obliged to, and we want them to come back because they love what we do.’
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PRIMAL BAR AND WHY?
